I’ve always been under the impression that no one buys gummy worms unless you’re 5 years old or your kid is 5 years old. Tbh I don’t know the last time I even had a gummy worm. But guys, they’re actually v delicious. So why am I back on the gummy worm train? Well…
Usually when I make a pie I try to force feed it all to my ultimate pie-tester (the boyfriend). However he seems to think a whole pie is too much for one person. What kind of ridiculous madness is that? THEN he tells me he’s eating healthy, I should make less pie. Crazy. Obvi I say no.
So my solution is to make a pie I know he can’t resist. He enjoys chocolate pudding more than your average grown adult and has been subtly giving hints that dirt cups were his favorite childhood treat. Which is how I found myself buying gummy worms for the first time in a million years.
for one minute long and hard about making a fancy grown-up version of a dirt cup with homemade pudding and cookies. But then I remembered that oreos are great and jell-o has the whole pudding thing pretty much figured out.
And it’s a good thing for you, cause this recipe is v simple. If I didn’t stop to eat so many dang oreos, I think I would have be done in under 15 minutes.
Dirt Cup Pie
1 package (3.9 oz) jell-o instant chocolate pudding
2 cups cold milk
1 tub (8 oz) cool whip, thawed
40 (approx) oreo cookies, finely crushed, divided
1/4 cup butter, melted
10 gummy worms (the rest are for you to snack on)
Make the crust: Mix 2 1/2 cups of the cookie crumbs in a bowl and mix with butter. Press firmly onto bottom and up side of your pie pan.
Make the pudding: Beat pudding mix and milk in large bowl with whisk for 2 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in cool whip.
Assemble the pie: Spoon a layer of pudding into your prepared pie crust. Using the remaining cookie crumbs, sprinkle a cookie layer over the pudding. Spoon a second layer of pudding on top of the cookie crumbs (depending on your pan size, you will have a little extra pudding). Sprinkle the remaining crumbs over top and add gummy worms!
Refrigerate for about an hour before serving. Now is the appropriate time to eat any remaining pudding. You deserve it.
