Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Custard Filling:

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the cake pans.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Creating the Creamy Custard:

  • In a saucepan, heat the milk until it's just about to boil. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and salt until smooth.
  • Gradually pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens into a custard.
  • Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla extract, and allow the custard to cool.

Assembling Your Masterpiece:

  • Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread the cooled custard evenly over it.
