Chaffle Recipe

Pinklady
The chaffle rose to popularity within the low-carb and keto communities around 2019. Its name is a clever combination of "cheese" and "waffle," highlighting its two key components. Although waffles have been a breakfast staple for centuries, this innovative twist makes it accessible to people who avoid flour or prefer a gluten-free option.

Equipment

  • Mini waffle maker (regular waffle maker can also work)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Fork or whisk
  • Non-stick spray or butter (for greasing)

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheddar for a sharper flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon almond flour (optional for added structure)
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder (optional, for a fluffier texture)
  • A pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare Your Waffle Maker
Preheat the waffle maker. Lightly grease it with non-stick spray or a small amount of butter to prevent sticking.
  • Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, whisk the egg until well-beaten. Add the shredded cheese, almond flour, baking powder, and salt (if using). Stir until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  • Cook the Chaffle
Pour half of the mixture onto the preheated waffle maker, spreading it evenly. Close the lid and let it cook for 3-4 minutes, or until the chaffle is golden brown and crispy.
  • Repeat for the Second Chaffle
Remove the cooked chaffle and set it aside on a plate. Pour the remaining batter into the waffle maker and cook it the same way.
  • Serve and Enjoy
Serve your chaffles warm. They’re delicious on their own or topped with butter, sugar-free syrup, or even savory toppings like avocado or bacon.
