Ingredients
  

  • 1 prepared pie crust (9-inch)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 5 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 5 large egg yolks
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 6 ounces bittersweet chocolate (finely chopped)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into pieces)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Crust: Use your favorite homemade pie crust or a store-bought one. Bake and cool it completely.
  • Make the Chocolate Filling:In a saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add milk and egg yolks, stirring until well blended.
  • Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and boils.Remove from heat and add the chopped bittersweet chocolate, butter, and vanilla. Stir until smooth.
  • Assemble the Pie: Pour the chocolate filling into the baked pie crust.Let it cool slightly, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
  • Serve:Top with homemade whipped cream if desired.
