Dirt Pudding Recipe
Dirt pudding originated in the United States as a playful twist on traditional pudding desserts. Inspired by the textures of real soil, the recipe uses crushed chocolate cookies to create an edible “dirt” layer.

Ingredients
- 1 (14 oz) package of chocolate sandwich cookies (e.g., Oreos)
- 2 cups cold milk
- 1 (3.4 oz) package of instant chocolate pudding mix
- 1 (8 oz) package of cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 (8 oz) container of whipped topping (e.g., Cool Whip), thawed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Place the chocolate cookies in a plastic bag and crush them into fine crumbs using a rolling pin. Alternatively, pulse them in a food processor until they resemble soil. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk the cold milk and instant chocolate pudding mix together until thickened. This should take about 2 minutes. Refrigerate the pudding while preparing the next step.
- In another bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy. Add the vanilla extract and mix well.
- Gently fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture. Once incorporated, fold in the prepared chocolate pudding to create a light, fluffy filling.
- In your chosen serving dish, layer the dessert as follows:
- Start with a layer of cookie crumbs.
- Add a layer of the pudding mixture.
- Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, ending with a cookie crumb layer on top.
- Garnish the top with gummy worms or candy rocks, pressing them lightly into the crumbs.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set and enhance the flavors.
