Equipment

  • Cutting board
  • Paring knife
  • Measuring spoons
  • Medium-sized skillet (preferably cast iron)
  • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples (preferably Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: ¼ cup water or apple cider (for a softer texture)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Apples
    Wash and peel the apples.
Core and slice them into thin wedges, ensuring even thickness for consistent cooking.
  • Heat the Skillet
Place your skillet over medium heat.
Add the butter and let it melt completely, creating a fragrant base.
  • Cook the Apples
Add the apple slices to the skillet, ensuring they’re spread out evenly.
Sprinkle the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt over the apples.
Stir gently to coat the apple slices with the mixture.
  • Simmer and Soften
Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the apples cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If the apples start to stick or you prefer a softer texture, add water or apple cider a little at a time.
  • Add Vanilla
Stir in the vanilla extract during the last minute of cooking for an aromatic finish.
  • Serve
Serve the fried apples warm as a side dish, dessert, or topping. Enjoy!
