Frozen Margarita Recipe

Pinklady
The margarita has been a beloved cocktail for decades, but its exact origin is a bit of a mystery. Some believe the drink was invented in the 1930s in Tijuana, Mexico, by a bartender named Carlos "Danny" Herrera.

Equipment

  • Blender: A high-powered blender is essential to get that smooth, icy texture.
  • Cocktail shaker (optional for mixing ingredients before blending).
  • Margarita glasses: For that classic presentation.
  • Plate and small bowl: To rim the glasses with salt.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 1 oz lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 oz orange liqueur (such as Triple Sec or Cointreau)
  • 1-2 tbsp simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cups iceLime wedges (for garnish)
  • Salt (for rimming the glass, optional)

Instructions

  • Start by rimming your glass with salt. Run a lime wedge along the rim of a margarita glass, then dip the rim into a plate filled with coarse salt. This adds a nice salty contrast to the sweet and tangy drink.
  • In a blender, combine 2 oz of tequila, 1 oz of lime juice, 1 oz of orange liqueur, 1-2 tbsp of simple syrup, and 2 cups of ice. Blend on high until smooth and slushy. The ice should be fully crushed, and the drink should have a frosty, thick consistency.
  • Once blended, taste your margarita. If it’s too tart, add a little more simple syrup. If it’s not tangy enough, add more lime juice. The beauty of a frozen margarita is that you can tweak it to your liking.
  • Pour the blended margarita into your prepared glass. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim of the glass for a burst of color and added flair.
  • Serve immediately while it's still frosty and refreshing. This drink is perfect on its own or paired with your favorite Mexican dishes, chips, and salsa.
