Equipment

  • Dutch oven or a large pot
  • Wooden spoon
  • Chef's knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of beef stew meat
  • 1 cup of Belgian ale
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Beef: Toss the beef with flour, salt, and pepper. In your Dutch oven, melt butter and brown the beef until it's golden on all sides.
  • Add Aromatics: Stir in onions, garlic, and carrots. Sauté until the vegetables are tender.
  • Deglaze with Ale: Pour in the Belgian ale, scraping up the flavorful bits from the bottom of the pot. Allow it to simmer for a few minutes.
  • Simmer to Perfection: Add bay leaves, cover, and let it simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours until the beef is tender and the flavors meld together.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Remove the bay leaves, and serve your Grisette hot over a bed of mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
