- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
- Vegetable oil for frying
Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt with the cornmeal in a mixing dish.
To the dry ingredients, add the beaten egg, chopped green bell pepper, diced onion, and buttermilk.
Blend until thoroughly blended.In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Spoonfuls of batter should be dropped into the hot oil and fried for two to three minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
The hush puppies can be taken out of the oil with a slotted spoon and then placed on paper towels to absorb any remaining oil.
