Monster Cookie Recipe

Pinklady
The origin of monster cookies is not widely known, but they are believed to have first appeared in Midwestern America. Their appeal comes from combining the best of several cookie recipes—oats from oatmeal cookies, peanut butter from classic peanut butter cookies, and chocolate chips from traditional chocolate chip cookies.

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie scoop or tablespoon
  • Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 4 1/2 cups rolled oats (old-fashioned)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup candy-coated chocolates (like M&M's)
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent the cookies from sticking.
  • Mix the Wet Ingredients:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, peanut butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer. Mix until the ingredients are light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  • Add the Eggs and Vanilla:
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated. Then add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  • Combine the Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the oats, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until combined.
  • Fold in the Add-ins:
Gently fold in the chocolate chips, candy-coated chocolates (M&M's), and mini chocolate chips (if using) into the cookie dough. Make sure they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Scoop the Dough:
Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop out portions of dough and place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
  • Bake the Cookies:
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 12–14 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft. Remember, the cookies will continue to firm up as they cool.
  • Cool the Cookies:
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
