Ingredients
  

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Coarse salt for topping

Instructions
 

  • Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
  • Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Divide dough into equal portions and roll each into a long rope. Twist into pretzel shapes.
  • Dip each pretzel in the beaten egg, place on the baking sheet, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  • Let the pretzels rest for 15 minutes, then bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool on a wire rack before serving.
