Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound of ground beef (80/20 lean to fat ratio)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Slices of American cheese
  • Hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  • Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 ounces each).
  • Season each portion with salt and pepper.
  • Place a portion of ground beef onto the hot skillet or griddle.
  • Immediately press down firmly with a spatula to smash the patty flat.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is caramelized and crispy.
  • Flip the patty and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • Add a slice of cheese on top of each patty and allow it to melt.
  • Toast the hamburger buns on the skillet for extra flavor.
  • Assemble the burgers with your desired toppings.
