Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into greased and floured cake pans.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
