Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 10 minutes mins
- 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
- 3–4 cups (360–480g) powdered sugar (sifted)
- 2–3 tablespoons (30–45ml) heavy cream or milk
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Prepare the Butter:Start by placing the softened unsalted butter into a large mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the butter on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until it’s light, fluffy, and pale in color. This step is essential to achieve a smooth, creamy frosting texture. Incorporate the Sugar:Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, while mixing on low speed. After each addition, increase the speed to medium and beat until fully incorporated. Repeat until all the sugar is added. Add Liquid Ingredients:Pour in the vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk. Beat the mixture on medium speed until it reaches a creamy, spreadable consistency. If the frosting is too thick, add more cream or milk, one teaspoon at a time. Check the Consistency:Your frosting should be smooth and easy to spread. If it's too thin, add a bit more powdered sugar. Adjust the flavor by adding a touch more vanilla if needed. Frost Your Desserts:Use a spatula or piping bag to spread or pipe the frosting onto your baked goods. For a professional touch, chill the frosting for 10 minutes before using it for piping.
