Ingredients
  

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

For the Caramel Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Cake Batter
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line the cake pan with parchment paper. Grease the sides with butter.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with milk, starting and ending with the dry mixture.
  • Gently fold in the diced apples and chopped walnuts.
  • Bake the Cake
    Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly.Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Make the Caramel Sauce
    In a saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns amber in color.Stir in the butter and cook for 1-2 minutes until fully combined.Remove from heat and slowly whisk in the heavy cream. Add a pinch of salt for flavor. Let the sauce cool slightly.
  • Assemble and Serve
    Drizzle the caramel sauce generously over the cooled cake.Garnish with extra chopped walnuts if desired.Slice and serve the cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added indulgence.
