Ingredients
  

For the Cabbage Rolls:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef or pork (or a mix)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sauce:

  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preparing the Cabbage
    Boil the Cabbage: Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Carefully place the whole cabbage into the pot and cook for about 5 minutes until the outer leaves are tender. Remove the cabbage and let it cool.
  • Separate the Leaves: Gently peel off the leaves one by one, being careful not to tear them. Set aside the largest leaves for rolling.
  • Making the Filling
    Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, beaten egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  • Assembling the Rolls
    Prepare the Leaves: Cut a V-shape at the base of each cabbage leaf to remove the tough stem.
    Fill and Roll: Place a spoonful of the meat mixture at the base of each leaf. Fold in the sides and roll up tightly. Repeat until all the filling is used.
  • Making the Sauce
    Combine Sauce Ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Cooking the Cabbage Rolls
    Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Arrange the Rolls: Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
    Pour the Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the cabbage rolls, ensuring they are well-covered.
  • Bake: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 1 hour, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
