Equipment

  • Mixing bowls (large and medium)
  • Hand or stand mixer
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie scoop or ice cream scoop
  • Cooling rack

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 ¾ cups (350g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¼ cups (250g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Mix-ins:

  • 2 cups (350g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  • Prepare the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • Cream the Butter and Sugars
In a large bowl, use a hand or stand mixer to beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This takes about 2–3 minutes.
  • Add Eggs and Vanilla
Crack in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and blend until smooth.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Mix on low speed to avoid overmixing, which can make the cookies dense.
  • Fold in Chocolate Chips
Use a spatula to gently fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they're evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Portion the Dough
Scoop large portions of dough (about ¼ cup each) onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
  • Bake
Bake for 12–14 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers will still look slightly undercooked – this ensures a soft texture as they cool.
  • Cool the Cookies
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
