- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon cold water
- Optional: sliced mushrooms and onions for topping
In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onions, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined. Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the patties to the pan and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Remove the patties and set them aside.
In the same pan, add beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Slowly add this mixture to the pan, whisking continuously. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-5 minutes. If desired, add sliced mushrooms and onions to the gravy and cook until tender.
Return the cooked patties to the pan, spooning gravy over them. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to let the flavors meld. Serve hot with your favorite side dishes.
