Lumpia is a popular Filipino spring roll that traces its roots back to China. Brought to the Philippines by Chinese immigrants, Lumpia has become a staple in Filipino cuisine, enjoyed during celebrations and as everyday snacks.

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground pork or beef
  • 1 cup finely chopped carrots
  • 1 cup finely chopped green beans
  • 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

For the Wrapper:

  • 30 lumpia wrappers (spring roll wrappers)

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Filling:
    In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork (or beef), chopped carrots, green beans, cabbage, onion, and garlic.Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
  • Wrap the Lumpia:
    Separate the lumpia wrappers carefully.Place one wrapper on a clean surface. Put about 2 tablespoons of the filling near one corner of the wrapper.
  • Fold the corner over the filling, then fold both sides towards the center.Roll the wrapper tightly to enclose the filling, sealing the edge with a dab of water.
  • Fry the Lumpia:
    In a frying pan, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.Once the oil is hot, fry the lumpia in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes per batch.
  • Use tongs to transfer the fried lumpia to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Serve:
    Serve the lumpia hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet chili sauce or vinegar with garlic.
