Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Step 1 - Activate the Yeast
    In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and honey. Sprinkle the yeast over the mixture and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • Step 2 - Mix the Flours
    In a separate bowl, combine whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, and salt.
  • Step 3 - Combine and Knead
    Pour the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Step 4 - First Rise
    Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Step 5 - Shape the Loaf
    Gently punch down the risen dough and shape it into a round or oval loaf.
  • Step 6 - Second Rise
    Place the shaped dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Step 7 - Preheat and Score
    Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If you have a bread scoring knife, make a few decorative slashes on the loaf.
  • Step 8 - Bake
    Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until it's golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Step 9 - Enjoy!
    Allow the bread to cool before slicing. Each serving contains approximately 100 calories, and the recipe serves 8 people.
