Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (divided)
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 3 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooking oil (vegetable or canola) for frying

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/4 cup soy sauce with the beaten eggs.
    Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are well-coated.
    Let the chicken marinate for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  • Prepare the Breading
    In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and cornstarch together.
    Dredge the marinated chicken pieces in the flour mixture, making sure each piece is fully coated. Shake off any excess flour
  • Fry the Chicken
    Heat the cooking oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).Carefully add the breaded chicken pieces in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot.F
    ry until the chicken is golden brown and crispy, about 5-6 minutes per batch.Remove the chicken with tongs and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Prepare the Sauce
    In a saucepan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat.
    Add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
    Pour in the chicken broth, remaining soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and brown sugar.
    Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring until the sugar has dissolved
  • Thicken the Sauce
    Add the cornstarch slurry to the simmering sauce, stirring continuously.
    Continue to simmer until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency, about 2-3 minutes.
    Stir in the sesame seeds.
  • Combine the Chicken and Sauce
    In a large skillet or wok, toss the fried chicken pieces with the sesame sauce until they are well-coated.

    Transfer the sesame chicken to a serving platter.
    Garnish with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of extra sesame seeds, if desired.
