Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer
  • Rocks glass or margarita glass

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila (preferably silver or blanco)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 1 large lime)
  • 0.5 oz orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec) or a splash of orange juice
  • 0.5 oz agave nectar or honey (optional for added sweetness)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge and salt for rimming the glass (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Glass:
If you prefer a salted rim, run a lime wedge around the edge of your glass, then dip the rim into a small plate of coarse salt.
  • Juice the Lime:
Use a citrus juicer to extract fresh lime juice. You’ll need about 1 oz of lime juice, which is roughly one large lime.
  • Mix the Ingredients:
In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz of tequila, 1 oz of fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz of orange liqueur, and 0.5 oz of agave nectar or honey if you like a bit of sweetness.i
  • Shake It Up:
Fill the shaker with ice, cover it, and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This chills the mixture and blends the flavors.
  • Serve:
Fill your glass with ice (if using a rocks glass) and strain the margarita mixture into the glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.
