Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Strainer or fine sieve
  • Measuring spoons
  • Stirring spoon
  • Two tall glasses

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 tablespoons of loose Thai tea leaves (or Thai tea mix)
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons of evaporated milk (or substitute with whole milk or coconut milk for dairy-free options)
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Boil the Water
In a small saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
  • Add Tea Leaves
Once the water is boiling, add the loose Thai tea leaves (or Thai tea mix) to the saucepan. Reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer for 3–5 minutes. This allows the tea to infuse with its rich flavor and deep orange color.
  • Sweeten the Tea
Stir in the sugar while the tea is still hot. Adjust the sweetness to your liking.
  • Strain the Tea
Remove the saucepan from heat and strain the tea through a fine sieve into a heat-safe container or pitcher. Discard the used tea leaves.
  • Cool the Tea
Allow the tea to cool slightly. You can speed up this process by placing it in the refrigerator for 5–10 minutes.
  • Prepare the Glasses
Fill two tall glasses with ice cubes.
  • Pour and Layer
Pour the cooled tea into the glasses, filling them about 3/4 full. Slowly add 1 tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk and 1 tablespoon of evaporated milk to each glass. This layering creates a stunning visual effect.
  • Mix and Serve
Gently stir the layers together before drinking. Enjoy your homemade Thai tea with a straw for an authentic experience.
