Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Grill or stovetop grill pan
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Plate for resting

Ingredients

  • 2 fresh tuna steaks (6 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Marinate the Tuna Steaks:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, black pepper, and sea salt.
  • Place the tuna steaks in the bowl and ensure they are well-coated with the marinade.
  • Cover the bowl and let the tuna marinate in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes. This helps the flavors to infuse into the fish.
  • Prepare the Grill or Grill Pan:
Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan to medium-high heat. Ensure it's properly oiled to prevent sticking.
  • Grill the Tuna Steaks:
Once the grill is hot, place the marinated tuna steaks on the grill.
  • Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side for a medium-rare finish. Adjust the time according to your preferred level of doneness.
  • If using sesame seeds, sprinkle them on the tuna steaks halfway through cooking for a toasted flavor.
  • Rest and Serve:
Remove the tuna steaks from the grill and place them on a plate to rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately. You can pair the tuna steaks with a side salad, steamed vegetables, or a light rice dish.
