Veggie Pizza Recipe
Pinklady
Pizza, as we know it today, originated in Italy and was brought to the world by Italian immigrants. While the traditional pizza was simply topped with tomatoes, cheese, and perhaps a bit of basil, over time, pizza toppings have become diverse and creative.

For the Dough (optional – use store-bought for convenience):
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 packet of active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
For the Sauce:
- 1 cup tomato sauce (or pizza sauce)
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 bell pepper (any color), thinly sliced
- 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/4 cup black olives, sliced
- 1/4 cup mushrooms, thinly sliced
- Fresh basil leaves (optional)
- Red pepper flakes (optional)
Prepare the Dough (Skip if using store-bought)In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, covering it with a towel. Let it rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
Preheat the OvenPreheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place your pizza stone or baking sheet inside as it heats up to help achieve a crispy crust. Prepare the SauceIn a small bowl, mix the tomato sauce, basil, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Adjust the seasoning to your preference. Roll Out the Doughif making the dough from scratch, punch down the risen dough, transfer it to a floured surface, and roll it out into a round shape (about 12 inches in diameter). Place the rolled-out dough on parchment paper to make it easy to transfer to the hot baking surface.
Add the Sauce and CheeseSpread an even layer of the prepared sauce on the dough, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
Add the Veggie ToppingsArrange the sliced bell pepper, red onion, cherry tomatoes, olives, and mushrooms evenly over the cheese. Feel free to add any other veggies you love! Sprinkle with red pepper flakes if you like a little heat.
Bake the PizzaCarefully slide the parchment paper with the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden, and the crust is crisp.
Garnish and ServeOnce the pizza is out of the oven, top it with fresh basil leaves if desired. Allow it to cool for a couple of minutes before slicing. Slice, serve, and enjoy your delicious homemade veggie pizza!
