Ingredients

Wontons1

  • 1/2 lb (250g) ground pork or chicken
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 20–24 wonton wrappers (available in the Asian section of most grocery stores)

Soup Broth

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1-inch ginger piece, sliced
  • 2 green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • A handful of baby bok choy or spinach (optional, for added nutrition)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Wonton Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork or chicken with soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, green onions, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  • Assemble the Wontons
Place a wonton wrapper on a flat surface. Add a small spoonful of filling (about 1/2 teaspoon) to the center of the wrapper.
  • Wet the edges of the wrapper with a bit of water.
  • Fold the wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle, pressing around the filling to seal.
  • Fold the two bottom corners of the triangle toward each other, pressing gently to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  • Prepare the Soup Broth
In a large soup pot, combine chicken broth, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger slices, and green onions.
  • Bring the broth to a gentle boil over medium heat.Add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Cook the Wontons
Once the broth is boiling, carefully add the wontons one at a time using a slotted spoon.
  • Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook the wontons for about 5–7 minutes, or until they float to the top. This indicates they are cooked through.
  • If adding baby bok choy or spinach, add it during the last 2 minutes of cooking.
  • Serve
Use a ladle to transfer the wontons and broth into bowls.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh cilantro, if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
