Meet Alex

Welcome to allspice, I’m Alex. A Chicago-dwelling, dessert-loving, twenty-something.

Launched as ‘Pies Before Guys’ in 2014, this blog originated as a pie of the month club out of a tiny Brooklyn apartment. The monthly get-togethers showed me it’s remarkably easy to unify friends with a delicious pie and a whole bottle glass of wine. After too much champagne one night, we have the brilliant idea to buy the URL piesbeforeguys dot com.

Fast-forward a six whole years (woah), and I’ve had a few life changes…relocating to Chicago and marrying my best friend. But tried to keep making pies and keep this blog alive as much as I could.

I’ll be honest, I was feeling a little burnt out of only making pies. So after some soul searching, I relaunched this rebranded blog in 2020. My new initials, ALL, inspired the rebrand to allspice. Now you’ll find all sorts of things here: cocktails, muffins, brunch ideas, and of course…still a few pies. Couldn’t lose that one completely.

TLDR; If you like sweets and puns, you’ll feel right at home here. Welcome to allspice!

Here are a few of my favorite posts to get you started:
